Philip Paul Kelly brings his powerful voice to the song “Savior,” the new single off the cast album from his Rock-n-Roll Wrestling Spectacle “Rockquiem For A Wrestler.” Performed and recorded live during the elevated staged reading at New York City’s legendary Off-Broadway venue, The Triad Theater, the single will arrive on music streaming services on March 25, 2022.
The band features Guitarist Benjamin J Samuelson, Drummer Peter Lazorcik, Bass Player Seth Lisle, and a special appearance by Eddie Star (Eddie Star & The Zero Effect, JoyBox) on Rhythm Guitar. Originally written, recorded, and performed by Star, the song is one of several titles licensed from the musician’s catalog included in the show.
“Eddie Star’s music is Punk Rock. I thought it would be a good compatible form of music to compliment the grittiness of the wrestling environment,” Kelly commented in a short documentary by filmmaker Shuyao Chen.
The story of a champion wrestler struggling with the trappings of fame transports the audience simultaneously between the world of professional wrestling and being at a rock concert. The show captured the imagination of the viewing audience during the live stream in June 2020 and featured the music of Eddie Star and Paul Castrataro (Picture of Dorian Gray, Fags & Cellphones).
The live cast recording, “Rockquiem For A Wrestler” (Released January 7, 2022), is currently only available on Compact Disc and will be released digitally later this year. The show is currently being adapted and developed for the screen.
